Glossary

Theatre and lighting terms as used in LuxStage.

Lighting rig — A tower or rig with several numbered spots (slots) for fixtures. Managed in the Setup area.

DMX — Digital Multiplex, the standard control protocol for stage lighting. Every fixture is assigned a DMX address, through which the lighting console addresses it.

Dimmer address vs. channel number — The channel number is the name under which a fixture is addressed in the lighting console (freely chosen). The dimmer address is the actual DMX address of the dimmer unit. Both appear side by side in the channel table, separated by "/" (e.g. "1/001").

Fly system — The technical rigging above the stage (flying bars, backdrops, lighting). In LuxStage, the internal name for the bars sub-tab within Setup.

Gel — Colour filter placed in front of a fixture, named after a manufacturer code (e.g. LEE "L202" or Rosco "R02"). In LuxStage, selectable via dropdown, free text, or "No Color".

Hanging plot — The complete set of hung lighting positions for a show. In LuxStage, the basis for the automatically generated text in the Info tab.

Gassenturm — A side lighting tower, usually placed in the stage wings. In LuxStage, the internal name of the "Setup" tab.

Portal bridge — A fixed lighting bridge at the stage portal, usually with permanently mounted fixture positions.

Position — The installation or hanging point of a fixture (e.g. "FOH BAR LEFT", "OVERHEAD BAR 1"). Channels are grouped by position in the channel table.

Slot — A single spot on a lighting rig that a channel can be assigned to.

Venue template — A reusable template with a fixed channel structure for a stage or venue, which can be applied to any new show.

Bar — A horizontal, usually height-adjustable pipe for hanging fixtures, with freely positionable spots along its length (unlike a lighting rig with fixed slots).
